Only Looking At One Time Frame? You’re Likely Missing Something

Hello, can someone tell me what is missing here?

Internet router connected via the purple cable with no issue.
The numbers below are connections in each room. Try and connect with LAN for the tv box from the router to number 1. But tv box located in the living room is dead. Laptop is dead also. What am i missing here? Somesort of switch?

The picture leads me to believe you’ve got the router in the cabinet. If so, you’ll need to patch from the ports on the router to each room.

Does the wireless work? Does it also work when you close the door on the cabinet?

Presumably ruskasinthehouse was reading by cellphone and the tram hit a bump.

Otherwise I don’t think there’s anything particularly groanworthy in my response. I can always improve on that, if need be.

Have you verified that the router ethernet ports actually work by plugging your laptop straight into the router?

Groan me again and I’ll stop.

Unlike JagWaugh, I’m not an experienced network engineer, but it does kinda look like there should be cables connected to the ports 1-5 along the bottom. How else is the box connected to the other rooms?

Why don’t you start by acting on the advice you’ve been given?

And you’re patching from the router ethernet ports to the lower white jacks on the MCS, and plugging into the ethernet jacks on the far end?

With most universal cabling systems you don’t normally need the special “Y” cables for straight ethernet-ethernet.

Must have been a big bump as he seems to be bleeding with all those red blobs around.

In your place I’d be figuring out how to remove that groan.

As a matter of fact, I’d have removed it a long time ago.

Try connecting your laptop directly to the router with both patch cables you are using. This will verify that your patch cables are ok.

Then try patching your laptop through to the other 3 rooms with the UCS and those two patch cables.

There is a slight chance that someone has messed up the UCS by reconfiguring the cabling (idiots abound).

There is also a chance that this particular UCS needs specially configured patch cables – ask your Landlord/Hauswart, they should provide them if this is the case.

Have you got a second laptop/ethernet device?

4 Common Reasons You Can’t Focus On Your Work (And How To Destroy Each One)

You know those days, right? The ones when you can’t seem to get anything done?

You spend a few minutes tapping away in a Google Doc, followed by an embarrassing amount of time falling down the YouTube black hole. You answer a single email before grabbing your phone for a not-so-brief scroll through Instagram.

Despite a lengthy to-do list, you just can’t focus on anything—and it’s infuriating. You know you need to get stuff done, yet those looming deadlines aren’t enough to convince you to actually buckle down and focus.

What gives? Why can’t you zoom in on the task at hand? And, more importantly, how can you give your attention span a much-needed kick in the pants?

Reason #1: You’re, Like, Really Tired (And Killing Off Brain Cells)

Are you yawning at your desk? Do you feel bleary-eyed, foggy, or like you’re trudging through cement? Are you debating a third (ok, fourth) cup of coffee?

I have news for you: You’re overtired, and it’s really hindering your ability to concentrate.

One study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine shows a direct correlation between sleep deprivation and impaired cognitive function—including your working memory and cognitive speed. Another facet that really takes a nosedive? Vigilant and executive attention.

That means not catching enough zzz’s can really sabotage your focus.

Here’s what’s even scarier — continued lack of sleep might actually destroy your brain cells. As part of a study published in The Journal of Neuroscience, when mice were deprived of sleep, the researchers discovered that locus ceruleus neurons (LCns) in the mice’s brains—which are essential for the brain’s alertness—began to die off.

Since these neurons were continuously firing without enough rest, they became damaged and were eventually destroyed. The mice lost a whopping 25% of their LCns after just three days of 4-5 hours of sleep.

Scientists hypothesize that the same thing could happen in human brains. So, basically, a lack of sleep could quite literally kill your brain cells. No wonder it’s so hard to focus when you didn’t get a good night’s rest.

So, What Can You Do About It?

Your first instinct might be to scramble for another caffeine boost, but that’s really just a bandaid.

In lieu of putting your head down and napping at your desk, there are a couple of things you can do to wake yourself up without slapping yourself across the face.

One of the best things you can do is head outside for a quick walk. Not only does that get your blood pumping, but it also exposes you to natural light. Research published in the International Journal of Advances in Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences states that some exposure to daylight enhances your attention, as well as your work performance.

And, instead of reaching for the coffee pot, grab a big glass of water instead. 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration, and sleepiness is one of the most common symptoms. So, chugging some water might be just what you need to perk up again.

Of course, these quick fixes can help when you feel bogged down in the middle of your workday, but they’re no replacement for actually getting a full night’s rest.

Evaluate and rearrange your schedule to ensure that you’re giving yourself enough rest each night (according to the National Sleep Foundation, you should be getting anywhere from seven to nine hours) and can show up to work feeling alert and recharged.

Reason #2: All News Is Bad News (For Your Focus)

There’s no shortage of distractions in your average workday—and I’m not just talking about the colleague who keeps dropping by or the seemingly endless meetings that break up your day.

You have a life outside of work, and it’s hard to check personal to-do’s at the office door. When big things are happening outside of the office—whether they’re good or bad—it becomes increasingly tough to set those aside and tackle your work. That’s because your emotional state is directly tied to your level of focus.

Let’s look at both positive and negative events here. We’ll follow the cliché and start with the bad news first. To put it simply, negative news has a severe impact on our mood.

“In particular. negative news can affect your own personal worries,” says British psychologist Dr. Graham Davey, in a HuffPost article about the negative news cycle. “Viewing negative news means that you’re likely to see your own personal worries as more threatening and severe, and when you do start worrying about them, you’re more likely to find your worry difficult to control and more distressing than it would normally be.”

While that quote is related to news programming in particular, it can be applied to any sort of negative news you receive—such as an upsetting update about a family member’s health. It sends you into a funk that tanks your mood and makes it that much tougher to dedicate your attention to your task list.

What about good or exciting news, then? Shouldn’t that have the opposite effect? It does, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.

When you’re pumped about something, it increases your adrenaline. Adrenaline can be great, but levels that are way too high can actually lead to anxiety, which results in decreased work performance.

It’s called the Yerkes-Dodson Law, and it basically states that there’s an optimal arousal level for getting your stuff done. And, a thrilling event puts you way too far past that optimal level—which makes it hard to concentrate.

Just think, if someone asked you to generate an important report immediately after you were told you’re getting promoted, it’s probably going to be tough to focus. You’re way too hyped up, and that amped emotional state makes it almost impossible to handle even the most routine tasks.

Only Looking At One Time Frame? You’re Likely Missing Something

I picked this up today and though at first that it was really well designed, but the upgrade system seems to be designed to just utterly screw the player over. The first upgrade is great, you don’t lose much agility and speed, but the second upgrade makes it pretty much impossible to maneuver at all, so you inevitably lose it because there’s just no way to dodge things. Then it drops you back to the start of the chain and you can be killed by one random shot around the map. That wouldn’t be much of an issue considering it’s the gameplay of many bullet hell games, but what bullet hells have is precision controls and that’s obviously not part of the design here. That’s not a complaint for the controls, I do find them enjoyable and the drifting aspect visually very appealing, but it just doesn’t fit the scenario that you get in to when you inevitably lose that second upgrade.

Is there something I’m missing here? Can I just keep the first upgrade and not go further somehow so that I’m not hamstrung by the second? Is there a way to keep the second upgrade from being slowed progressively until it’s virtually immobile and quickly killed?

I’ve never had a game go from so fun to so unappealing in that short amount of time. Dying over and over in the same spot and not ever breaking 5000 points is really frustrating. The fact that my best run was when I killed things the slowest and with the fewest multipliers really makes it seem like the problem isn’t on my end.

The tank is hard to master, give it some more practice, stop shooting as soon as you can so you can repair and prioritize targets (bombers > scorpions > the rest).

Plus, each time you lose the tank your weapons level up so you get a bit more powerful at each cycle.

It gets easier as you become more comfortable with the game. john_matrix has a pretty straight forward guide to the game. I’d recommend checking it out.

On a side note, what does it mean for the people scoring over 5000? I’m curious to know.

The tank is hard to master, give it some more practice, stop shooting as soon as you can so you can repair and prioritize targets (bombers > scorpions > the rest).

Plus, each time you lose the tank your weapons level up so you get a bit more powerful at each cycle.

Those are two interesting points the game unfortunately doesn’t tell you (or I simply missed them as well). I noticed getting Mark II, Mark III, etc. but never knew how or why. The only obvious part was double rockets for example.

Maybe add a “Training Mode” that doesn’t grant achievements or online ranking, but includes additional help such as a health bar above your ship, a repair timer indicator or whatever, etc.

I’ll give it another shot, but failing in the same place over and over got old quick.

In addition to some sort of indicator for upgrades like Smaxx mentioned, it would be really great if I had any idea the state of my ships’s health. It’s hard to tell if I need to repair or not. I wouldn’t mind if it was a relatively large bar at the bottom of the screen or something considering how open the UI is, really just anything so I know if I’m in danger and need to make space.

The ship blinks if it needs repairs. Stop shooting and the ship auto repairs itself with a progress bar that is directly on top of the ship itself. The progress bar disappears when the repair is complete.

There are also game tips at the bottom of the score board which tell you to stop shooting in order to repair the ship.

A. A holiday is many things to many people. Some like to be active, while others like to just sit back and relax. A fun family trip that everyone can enjoy is river rafting. This is where you and your whole family sink into an inflatable craft on a slow flowing river and just lie back and watch nature as it passes you by.

B. Most people put a lot of focus on a holiday’s specific destination. Others have something else in mind. They want five-star hotels, fine dining and other niceties at their fingertips. You have to admit, it’s not a bad idea. Who needs to go sightseeing when you can just get a deep massage, swim in a heated pool or have chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to your table?

C. It’s hard to believe someone would want to stay in an ice hotel, but believe it or not, such a thing exists. There’s one in the most northern regions of Sweden which operates during winter. It’s not as cold as one would think, as long as you don’t touch the walls! As for day trips, it’s a snowy winter wonderland as far as the eye can see.

D. Seeing nature is definitely a good choice for a holiday adventure. One idea is to visit a canyon. Often, you can walk through the centre of the canyon and see towering cliffs and fascinating rock formations It’s a great way to get a bit of exercise as well. Just make sure you’ve got a sturdy pair of boots on for the rough terrain.

E. Summer isn’t the only time you can go on a fulfilling holiday. Many winter destinations have much to keep you entertained. Take skiing trips, for example. A gorgeous drive to the mountains is enough to take your stress away. Few things are more thrilling than gliding over snow at speed. Even if you’re afraid of skiing, there’s always the beginner runs. Even little kids give those a try!

F. Imagine visiting ten different cities in just two weeks. This is the type of holiday you can have on a cruise ship. Each time the ship pulls into a new port, you get to hop off and explore a new, exotic locale. And in between stops, you can admire the amazing waters of the world. You may love the water so much, you never want to return to land!

G. Some people’s idea of a holiday is very straightforward. All they want is to lie undisturbed on a golden beach surrounded by crystal blue waters, with an umbrella to shield them from the bright rays. It may be the typical holiday setting, but you have to admit, it’s very popular for a reason. Just make sure you pack extra sun cream and a large hat!

Road trip

The second week of Sarah’s road trip proved to be problematic. Even though she had voiced concerns about her boyfriend’s ‘great idea’ of buying a used van to travel around in, she wasn’t about to say ‘I told you so’ when it broke down halfway across Kentucky.

She did, however, sigh when Josh asked if she would chip in for repairs. ‘I’m going to have to call my parents for this, you know,’ she said in a patient yet admonishing tone.

So the pair of them, accompanied by Sarah’s sister, Michelle, and a friend, Shane, were stranded for the next couple of days in Bardstown, population 11,700. They scrabbled to find something to do to entertain themselves while they waited for the engine part to arrive. They’d made sleeping arrangements at a quaint bed and breakfast near the historic district. It was either that or the row of bog standard, characterless motels out on the interstate highway that Sarah had convinced the others to avoid. ‘The mechanic said we should check out Bardstown. It might be pretty dull, but how bad can it be?’ she urged the group, not fully convinced they’d find something better. Michelle, who usually argued for the sake of it, was for once on board. The guys agreed.

Once the accommodation was taken care of, they set out for the bit of sightseeing that Bardstown had to offer. They perused the main road, with its dozen or so buildings that had survived from the town’s days as an early trading post. Each one had its own version of a knick-knack shop. They were charming, and contrary to Sarah’s gut feeling from before, there were much worse places to be stranded in.

They decided to enter one of the shops. Although more spacious than the others, it was still jam-packed with stuff. ‘Howdy, folks,’ the shop owner said as they entered, which was not so much ‘Welcome to Bardstown’ as ‘You break it, you buy it.’ Sarah suspected it was an age-appropriate comment, as they didn’t look like the most responsible bunch, despite the opposite being true in her case.

The shop was filled with the typical antique shop items: odd, mismatched china sets, silverware, wooden furniture, lampshades. The walls had dozens of old paintings only the painter could love and more stuffed birds than Sarah cared to see. The shop was void of people, eerily quiet, and even though she and Michelle found humour in the items, they kept their comments to themselves. The guys admired the old hunting rifles. ‘I hope there aren’t any bullets left in those,’ Michelle quipped, the words jarring the silence.

Less interested in gazing at objects, Sarah decided to strike up a conversation with the owner. ‘Have you lived here all your life?’ Sarah asked, imagining the answer to be ‘Yes.’

‘My parents were even born here. In fact, there might be more people in town I’m related to than not,’ the owner said, straight-faced. Sarah didn’t know what to make of that comment, but she politely laughed. ‘Where are you guys from?’ he asked. ‘Certainly not from around these parts.’

‘We’re from New Hampshire. On a road trip across America. We’re going to California,’ she said, wondering if she offered too much information, little as it was.

‘Oh, too many earthquakes out there for me,’ he said. ‘I’ll stay put.’

‘We were wondering where we should get something to eat. Any recommendations?’ she asked genuinely, but also because she couldn’t think of anything else to say.

‘Everything’s safe to eat around here, except the burger joint out on the highway, next to the mechanic. Worst place to eat around. Worst mechanic in town, too.’

1. How did Sarah feel about calling her parents for help?
1) Eager.
2) Put out.
3) Enraged.
4) Disinterested.

2. Regarding accommodation, Sarah was sure …
1) there was something better than on the highway.
2) that Bardstown would be entertaining.
3) the mechanic knew what he was talking about.
4) she didn’t want to stay on the highway.

3. What does the phrase ‘gut feeling’ in the fourth paragraph mean?
1) A moment of confusion.
3) A feeling of certainty.
2) Discomfort in the stomach.
4) An initial attitude or belief.

4. The shop owner greeted the group with …
1) a humorous tone.
2) genuine kindness.
3) suspicion.
4) a salesman-like attitude.

5. Sarah thought that the paintings in the shop were …
1) attractive.
2) all very similar.
3) all by the same artist.
4) ugly.

6. Sarah laughed at what the shop owner said because she …
1) found it to be funny.
2) felt a bit nervous.
3) assumed he was joking.
4) thought of something funny.

7. How was Sarah likely to feel at the end of the last paragraph?
1) Relieved.
2) Concerned.
3) Amused.
4) Confident.
